Winter scene
In winter time RC activity usualy quiets down, but not on Slovenian F5J scene. Last year we came up with monthly winter meetings, where entry price is a chocolate of your choice and at the end of the day, winner takes the largest chocolate. We nicknamed it "chocolate winter cup" and are continuing it this winter too. Weather so far was very cooperative due to global warming or something ...The other new thing that's slowly developing is a replacement category for Speed 400 powered F5J. Chinese outrunners, ESCs and lipos are already cheaper than a S400, gearbox, ESC and NiMH battery. Aeronaut has a nice table on their site, which prop should turn at how many RPMs with 100w input power, which we chose as the basis for our "F5J-100W" class: we don't care what model, motor or battery you have, as long as you have an unmodified aeronaut prop that spins at 100w declared (or less) rpm ... and that's it. It seems that the coming season will be flown wiht mostly the same models as S400 (based on Drela's designs). We still have to reach an agrement on how to compare them against the ageing (dying?) S400 class, but I have a feeling that nobody will fly S400 at the end of the year ...
